Reading along with us in Deuteronomy and Corinthians? Here’s today’s reading:
Deuteronomy 31 (NIV)
Joshua to Succeed Moses
1 Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2“I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ 3 The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land.……Continue Reading
There is so much to see about God through this passage. We see how intentional his love is for Israel, how marvelous his plans are but we also see a consistent God who lets His children suffer the consequences of their sins. I can only imagine how hard that must be for a parent but then again, He is not human. He goes before us. He is not bound by emotions. He does what is right. He is God.
The lord himself goes before you and will be with you he will never leave you or forsake you Do not be afraid do not be discouraged. If only these words would stick throughout each day. A lot of noise trying to steal our joy. Imagine Moses hearing these words about Israel rebellion. Must have crushed his heart. Deserving Gods punishment but receiving mercy. Are we any different!!
Deuteronomy 31
Deuteronomy 30
I am impressed with Moses knowing his days are few, and had foresight to instruct Israel in God’s way. Truly, the battle is God’s, it will be miraculous, and they will succeed!
But God told Israel what they would end up doing, and it will be evil. This does not upend the truth of Moses, they could have victory, but they will not want it.
The battle of sin is God’s, not ours, He will give sin into our hands, and we will rule over it. God remains faithful to the end, even when we falter.
The Lord knows our hearts and thoughts even if we haven`t spoken a word. God is telling the people of Israel what they will do after Moses is dead. When they become fulfilled and have everything they want, they will fall away from the Lord and seek after other gods made in their own image. Isn`t this just like us today? But instead of making idols of false gods as the people of Israel did, we make gods of other things. such as money, possessions, movie stars. football players, etc. Basically, anything or anyone that is put before God can be a false idol. Just as God said would happen; it played out. The Israelites have a history of starting with the Lord and then falling away by going into sin. He would not bless them but instead would curse them because of their many sins. If, however, they repented and turned away from their sin and sought the Lord; then He would again bless them. 2 Chronicles 7:14 {If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.} Even though this was written to Israel, it applies to us as believers today. God often can allow terrible things to happen to us personally, or nation wide to bring us back to seeking Him above all things. We truly need a revival in our nation. And it starts with each one of us. I believe that God has given us a reprieve in our nation to come back to Him. We can also take the promise that was given by God to be strong and of good courage and not be afraid for He will go before us to fight for us. Deut. 31:6 {Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them; for the Lord thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.} Such great promises we have from God. May we often remember that He is always there with us. Remember that He also indwells in us as the Holy Spirit. God bless.
Deuteronomy 31
Deuteronomy 31
I am sure it was hard for Moses to see the people finally entering the promised land and him not being able to join due to his disobedience. However, he is still following God’s instruction and leading and guiding the people right until the end. Must also be difficult for God to know that His people will once again fall victim to their own sinful ways. He instructs several time to “be strong and courageous” knowing that all too often it is our own fear and doubt that leads to our disobedience and yet He also reminds us to “fear the Lord” which is an entirely different type of fear that leads us to obedience because it is based in a reverant awe of all He has accomplished and that He is always faithful and always present even when our impatience, fear, and doubt tells us otherwise.
Deuteronomy 31
So Moses is to pass the torch to Joshua and Joshua is told that he can be strong and courageous because God will be with Him. He will have big shoes to fill, but with God by His side, He is up to the task.. Moses is rightfully concerned about the Israelites hearts and so he tells them they are to read the law publicly at least every seven years so they can be reminded of God’s truths. How important it is for us to be in the word, and I hope this Bible page helps all do just that. May more join us here. But this time of transfer of leadership is sobering with the awareness that the Jews will turn their backs on God. How important it is for us to diligently pursue Him so that we do not fall in the same trap.
Always keep in the forefront of our minds what God promises us so that fear, doubt, anxiety and catastrophic thinking do not take over. The Lord will deliver us, the Lord goes before us, he always walks beside us; he will never leave us, he will never forsake us. Therefore, we can be very strong and courageous. Believe these truths and fear and terror will not enter in.
”Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to inherit it. And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”“
Deuteronomy 31:7-8 NKJV
God transfers leadership to Joshua and promises to go before him.
The command to “do not fear” is so significant. Joshua would face physical death, in battle as he goes into the land. God says, “do not fear” as he sends Joshua into the land with a sword. We rarely face physical death in the name of God and yet we are still often motivated by fear.
DO NOT FEAR.
