Acts 18 (NIV)

In Corinth
1 After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. 2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, 3 and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them……Continue Reading

  1. Paul’s travels are always wrought with abuse, opposition, and contention. His road was not easy, but as God reminded him in this chapter, “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you,” For all the jams he found himself in, there was always a way out. For all the people that wanted to hurt him, there were always people like Aquilla nd Priscilla that helped him. For all the beatings he endured, his life was continually spared. Paul was able to hold onto the promise that God gave him that He would always be with him. He weathered storm after storm and experienced the protection of God despite the outward appearance that things were so bad.
It certainly puts our lives into perspective, it humbles me to think how more bold I could and should be about God and inspires me to know that that same promise covers me as well!

  2. What a great expression of the Christian life is found here. Sharing the gospel and making disciples should be the heartbeat of all of us, but there is a time to say, you are opposing me, I am going to go to those who will listen. And yet as we stand with and for Jesus, there will be people that oppose us. But there will also be others that agree with us and we encourage each other in our faith and even participate in ministry together, recognizing the gifts that everyone has that will define what we do and what we don’t do. There will also be times when someone is doing something wrong or incompletely and there is a place for those who are more mature to come alongside and teach them. It is important in those times for the teacher to be patient and understanding and the one who needs to learn to be teachable and open to the correction. That is how the church should operate…..

  3. “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” God assured Paul of his safety so he would spend time preaching in Corinth. He gives him two people to assist him, Aquila and Priscilla. And he protects Paul when the Jews attack him. So much so that the proconsul refused to even hear the case against him and allowed the person who accused him to be beaten. And Paul walks away, continuing with God’s work of preaching the gospel. God will never leave us or forsake us, this is his promise, we can rely on him always.

  4. ”When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”“
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭18‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Paul continues to preach to his brethren, the Jews, despite being persecuted. Here he shakes the dust off his feet/garments, and proclaims he will be going to the Gentiles, it is interesting that God raises up the most qualified Jew to be the apostle to the Gentiles.
