Reading along with us in 2 Chronicles, Psalms, & Proverbs? Here’s today’s reading:
2 Chronicles 36 (NIV)
1 And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.
Jehoahaz King of Judah
2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months.……Continue Reading

Back: 2 Chronicles 35

Sad finish, 4 bad kings, slavery, and exiles. God sent warnings all along and the people just ignored them. I wonnder how often our own sin and disobedience prevent us from hearing God’s warnings. I know that when we are responding to life in an emotional way rather than through the truth of God’s word we are more prone to ignore His voice in our lives. These people were caught up in all the idolatry and disobedience so many probably didn’t even acknowledge the warnnings. So reassuring to know that even when we aren’t listening, God doesn’t stop trying to get our attention!
And so, what God told Josiah would happen unfolds with these kings not following in Josiah’s footsteps. It is sad to see the clear rejection of God after so much faithfulness on His part and all His attempts to call them back to Him. And they continued in their disobedience in spite of the discipline God brought through Babylon. It is very interesting that the land finally getting it’s Sabbath rests is mentioned., making that one of the issues that God had with Judah. It was a sign of their lack of faith and pride to not take the rest that God intends, in the same way we don’t let our hearts rest in Him because we believe. And God also assures them that a remnant will return and He will continue His work on their behalf to lead Cyrus to build the temple. He is such a faithful and true God, full of grace and mercy shown to us.
2 Chronicles 36
2 Chronicles 34 – 36
I couldn’t help but notice how young these kings are, even Josiah was very young, even so they choose to worship/obey/honor God, or not.
Even these youngsters, whether too young to be independent or too young to have any life experience, were responsible for their actions as kings and leading the people towards God or idols. Makes me think of our society now and how we view children.
Also, God uses, not a king of Israel or Judah, but Cyrus, as prophesied beforehand. Just goes to show, God uses who He wills.
Psalm 21; 2 Chronicles 36; Nehemiah 1

2 Chronicles 36
God’s people were exiled, the land rested for 70 years, and then the remnant went back to Jerusalem to build the temple. Prophecy is written, and prophecy is fulfilled. This pattern takes place throughout God’s word. So, if we want to know what’s going to happen in the future, it is best to read the Bible. All other sources are unreliable unless it can be verified with what the Word says.
