  1. Josiah ensures a memorable Passover Feast including worship and singing. Unfortunately, he then does not seek God or hear Necho’s warning before making a rash decision to enter the battle against Egypt leading to his death. The good that Josiah did certainly far outweighed this mistake and he is remembered as an obedient king!

  2. How great to see Josiah dotting all the I’s and crossing all the t’s when it came to arranging for this Passover. It just shows his heart to see the word/will of God put in practice. May we follow as faithfully. It is also interesting to read how generous he was to make sure everyone had a good Passover. And yet how sad to see how this great king’s life ended. There may have been a bit of pride here and not being confident that this Egyptian king could speak for God. But hindsight is always 20/20. The greatest mistake, naturally, was not seeking God’s counsel after being so faithful to follow God’s word.

  3. “There had been no Passover kept in Israel like that since the days of Samuel the prophet; and none of the kings of Israel had kept such a Passover as Josiah kept, with the priests and the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”
    ‭‭II Chronicles‬ ‭35‬:‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I’m kind of confused about Necho speaking for God. Why would Josiah recognize him as speaking for God? Although I suppose what Necho says is not inconsistent with the given situation. There is no indication that God was displeased with Josiah at any point or proclaims Josiah did not consult Him in this decision, but he does die, so there’s that.

  4. Josiah would not heed Necho’s warning. He had his mind made up that he was going to fight him, so for some reason he thought that if he disguised himself he would get away with it. Lets not kid ourselves when it comes to our wants and desires. If we go against the word of God, it will not turn out good for us.
