How quickly we can forget what God can and has done in our lives that leads us to try to manage things without Him! Asa learned this the hard way when he forgot the massive victory God had given them and resorted to compromise with Syria which was the true enemy. Also funny how we can react when confronted with the truth of our actions. Asa got so angry he imprisoned the seer for telling him what I am sure he already knew, you didn’t trust God and now you will see the negative results of that choice. Sometimes it hurts to hear the truth but that doesn’t stop it from being true!
Oh well, at least he tried to do good in the beginning of his time as King. Too bad he couldn’t keep it going all the way through.
It just goes to show how vigilant we need to be in our faith. When we are faced with problems we should always turn to God first to seek His direction and His provision. We can understand how this can happen, but it is sad to see one so faithful forgetting God, forsaking His counsel and not even seeking Him when he puts a problem in his life, presumably to draw Asa back to Him.

Oh how the mighty in faith can fall. Previous victory and provision from God doesn’t guarantee such things in the future; though He in his mercy and grace cuts us some slack, God in general is faithful to us if we’re faithful to Him.
May this serve as a warning to us to not lose sight on our dependence on God.
When we rely on the Lord, he provides. When we don’t, he steps aside and lets circumstances unfold in a manner that may cause us some distress, as was the case with Asa.
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.””
