Reading along with us in 1 Chronicles and Luke? Here’s today’s reading:
Luke 8 (NIV)
The Parable of the Sower
1 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out;…..Continue Reading

Luke 8
Jesus performed many miracles and continues to do so today. Many happy coincidences are due to blessings from God.
Luke 8
It’s like the first time I have read this. All the differant ways the word can be snatched from us.
We need to stay in the word daily because it could be a new relationship, friends, tv choices all of this is in the world. And Satan has many ways without even realizing what he is tempting us with. Comes back to wearing the armor of God guarding our hearts and knowing no weapon formed against me can prosper with Jesus in my heart. Some times we do not recognize the simple ways it happens. While in the word at church your mind can go to other things. Work, what to make for dinner, what’s needed at the store and on and on. We can leave church and realize we missed the whole message or parts of it.
So many miracles through out this chapter.
May we all be the soil that bears much fruit and be willing to shine our light wherever we go. And two misunderstandings are addressed in this chapter: that Mary Magdalene had seven demons cast out of her and was not necessarily a prostitute and Mary had other children besides Jesus. And Jesus shows His power and control over some very significant things here: the weather, numerous evil spirits and even death. And the woman healed from her blood disease shows the way we connect to Jesus and that is through faith. I love the picture of who touched me..when many were, and yet it was the touch of faith that made Jesus’ power available. It is truly awesome that we receive and have Jesus with us by the means.
Luke 8
The farmers seed some fell onto rocks, people that might follow Jesus but never get around to doing anything about it. A thorn, patch people, overcome by worries in the lure of materialism , they have no room in their lives for God. Good soil follow Jesus no matter what the cost. I’m examining myself this morning which type am I. The sea of Galilee: I had read could reach waves up to 20 feet tall. Imagine being in that kind of storm, but as a child of God when we’re caught in the storms of life, it’s easy to think that God has lost control. But in reality, God is sovereign, controlling the history of the world, as well as all our personal destinies , he can calm whatever storm we are facing. In verses 27 and 28, the demons recognize Jesus and who he is immediately and we was must remember that it’s not in any power of ours to confront demonic forces, but it’s in the power of the name of Jesus. They beg Jesus not to throw them into the abyss and their time had not come for that so he sent them elsewhere. The woman’s faith in verse 43 is what allowed the power to leave him and healed her.
The women were supporting Jesus and the Twelve as they preached the word, isn’t that something! I was thinking about the parable of the seed when I was seeding my lawn last week. I was hoping they were going to take root and multiply, making my lawn look amazing! That’s what God’s should be doing, getting grounded in the faith, and growing into something beautiful. Shining their light, being fruitful and sharing God’s goodness with the world.
Luke 8
Luke 8
Luke 8 – so much in this chapter the four soils, the seed being the word of God, and how we use it. Is it in our hearts so it can’t be taken away? We want to let our light shine and not hide it. Jesus calms the storm, where is our faith and how strong is it? The miracles Jesus did, and the faith and belief in the woman who touched his robe and was healed, her faith healed her Jesus said.
This is a full chapter! So much that Jesus did and said, but today I was particulary drawn to Jesus in the storm. Why would we not want to be a lamp, why would would not want to be the good soil bearing much fruit when we have seen the power of Jesus in our lives. The times where He is in control of the storms of our lives. He tells the wind and rain when and where to come and go and can raise the dead! Such power and authority and yet such love to want a relationship with the likes of me, overwhelming!
