  1. Jesus is worthy of our best and Mary shows us that and her heart for Him in anointing Him with this perfume. And Judas shows his heart by complaining about it when he was really just thinking about himself. It is such an interesting thing that he watched over the money when he was taking from it. I imagine this was an extension of Jesus’ grace to him to give him a chance to make a right decision. But he just kept making wrong ones, ultimately being willing to hand Jesus over for 30 pieces of silver. And as the opposition is plotting against Him, Jesus makes plans to have a Passover meal with his disciples. This will be a special meal with them and Jesus makes sure preparations are made. Yet He recognizes that this Passover is just a symbol of what will eventually be completed in God’s kingdom. So even as Jesus celebrates on earth, He wants us and His apostles to think of what Jesus will make possible in eternity.

  2. A heart for God and a heart for money. Mary cares nothing for the monetary value of the perfume, only that she gave everything in glory of God. She poured our her best and her heart at His feet. Judas on the other hand, only saw the dollar signs of that choice and what he might receive from having that perfume. It really comes down to you cannot serve God and money. We should give with a joyful heart knowing that everything we have comes from Him anyway but someone who is so concerned about money and the things of this world wouldn’t be able to see that.

  3. Lent day 13

I also read a Psalm a day. Yesterday I read Psalm 22….interesting as we approach Easter.

“For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You. For the kingdom is the Lord’s, And He rules over the nations. All the prosperous of the earth Shall eat and worship; All those who go down to the dust Shall bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep himself alive. A posterity shall serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation, They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, That He has done this.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭22‬:‭16‬-‭18‬, ‭27‬-‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  4. Satan certainly found his way through Judas, even though he was one of the 12 apostles. Jesus knew who Judas was and what he would do. It was part of the plan to fulfill prophecy. Not only was he a thief but his greed would ultimately commit the worse sin of all – the betrayal of handing Jesus over to the enemy. Because Jesus knew all this in advance…it makes me wonder how he was able to face all that he knew was coming ahead. He knew his ultimate demise in advance. Hard to fathom.
