Reading along with us in Song of Solomon? Here’s today’s reading:
Song of Solomon 2 (ESV)
I am a rose of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.
He
2 As a lily among brambles,
so is my love among the young women.
She
3 As an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
so is my beloved among the young men.
With great delight I sat in his shadow,
and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
4 He brought me to the banqueting house,
and his banner over me was love.
5 Sustain me with raisins;
refresh me with apples,
for I am sick with love.
6 His left hand is under my head,

Intensity of intimacy
I like that this is in scripture
It is not selfish to love and be excited about another
4 He brought me to the banqueting house,
and his banner over me was love.❤️
Read S of S 1 and 2. Reviewing for our study in Luke tomorrow and working ahead on questions in Chapter 19.
Vs. 3-13 is such a beautiful picture of the Christ/church analogy:
-She singles him out among the others
-She is captivated with his strength and the display of his might.
-She delights in his company, and urges him to join her
This is such a beautiful image of marriage, but spiritually, can we come to a place where we hunger for His presence as a body of Christ like this? What stands in the way of this being a description of our intimacy with Him? What stands in the way of this being a description of our marriages? Are they the same things?
Although it is not wrong to find other applications in portions of Scripture that reinforce principles found in other portions of Scripture, we also don’t need to make these portions say any more than what is intended to see value in them. I wonder how many kids singing His banner over me is love realize what it is really talking about. It is a woman talking about the covering, provision and protection that comes from her man. Little foxes ruining the vines is another verse that is applied to things outside of the context of this love relationship between a husband and wife. This is beautiful poetry and intimate talk where it belongs.
