  1. Such hope in what God promises us…
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
But Peter goes on to be sure we know that we need to actively pursue that Godly life and add on to our faith. We must be diligent and pursue a deeper understanding and relationship with God and it will be noticeable to others in our walk and in the fruit of our lives.
Peter also impresses the importance of sharing the truth of the word, the truth of what was prophesied and came to pass, truth of all God has already accomplished to truly understand all He continues to accomplish. Peter is not sharing hearsay but rather first hand accounts! All of God’s word is first hand accounts of the miracles, power, and provisions of God. The same we we tell our children our past experiences and the importance of the lessons we have learned so they can make better choices and avoid common mistakes the Bible is that same tool for us in our daily lives and we need to treat it as such learning and growing as we read.

  2. Certainly can tell the difference in peters letters as 1 Peter was written just before nero began persecution of the church. 2 Peter was written after. To reaffirm to Christian’s the validity of the Christian faith. That Jesus is who he said he was and the word of God was divine. Vs 3. God has given us power to overcome sin and to help us live a Godly life. The Holy Spirit empowers us. Vs 5. Faith should grow leading us to action. Doing Gods will. Loving others. Not always easy. But faith in God is the key. Peter talks of his own death. Can’t imagine being crucified upside down. At his own request. Hard to believe there was people that evil. In a way. Can’t wait for judgement day for some that evil. Pilate. Herod. Nero. Scripture is not a bunch of stories and fables or human ideas. It is Gods very words. Peter is driving home to persecuted Christian’s. That Jesus was the son of God and that scripture is not from man but spoke from God through the Holy Spirit unto prophets.

  3. 2 Peter 1 – Peter is reminding believers of God’s Devine power, and how he has given us everything we need to live a Godly life and he had made that possible through the knowledge of his word. We need to stay strong in the Lord. Peter is reminding believers that the Bible isn’t made up stories because they have witnessed Gods Devine power, they have heard him speak . We have to remember that we have scripture and the Holy Spirit to lead us and keep our faith strong in the Lord!

  4. The only way to have God’s peace is to know him better and better as h gives us the exact steps to obtain this
The steps are made very clear so as not to skip to the last step ahead of time to take on his character. We must work hard to be good. By knowing him better then we will find out what he wants us to do. Forget about our worldly desires and then we can enjoy others. It always says the road to heaven is narrow. Truth. I love hearing he will open the gates “wide” for us to enter! These words are not from men but the Holy spirit that was inside of them.

  5. This chapter encapsulates the Christian life, past, present and future. What we have already obtained through knowing Jesus.
    – precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ
    – Grace and peace
    – His divine power
    – all things that pertain to life and godliness (again through knowledge)
    – exceedingly great and precious promises
    – partakers of the divine nature
    – escaped the corruption
These are things that are just given to us through faith!
    Grace and Peace are multiplied.
    We add:
    – diligence
    – virtue
    -knowledge
    – self-control
    – perseverance
    -godliness
    -brotherly kindness
    -love

This is like a life-math problem.
If we don’t add: abound, bear fruit
We will subtract: For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

It is interesting that our fruit-bearing all hangs on our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our lack of fruit-bearing is due to our forgetfulness. Our diligent adding will give us an unstumbling walk and an abundant entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I like the end where Peter tells of their mountaintop experience of Christ’s transfiguration which confirms the prophesy and the prophesy of scripture.

  6. I really love when Peter shares that we have everything we need for life and godliness and that flows from all that God is and what He provides. What a comfort it brings as we face the various aspects of life. And then beyond that to know that we share in the divine nature. But it doesn’t mean that our work is done, because we need to be making choices to have the given character traits built in us. Yes we must choose to grow in knowledge, virtue, love and the rest, participating with what God has placed within us. And boy do we need to be reminded of these things, both the character traits that God calls us to as well as the source of power that it flows from. Peter shows his heart for teaching and ministry by continuing to do so even though he knows that his time here on this earth is short. He will leave this earth in the way that Jesus said. And it is based in what Jesus is and has said that is the basis of what Peter says as well. Jesus gave the sure testimony that we can be confident of. We do not follow fables, but the word expressed through Jesus who lived and Peter and others were eyewitnesses to. We can know therefore that what we believe is true.
