2 Chronicles 9 (NIV)

The Queen of Sheba Visits Solomon
1 When the queen of Sheba heard of Solomon’s fame, she came to Jerusalem to test him with hard questions. Arriving with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all she had on her mind. 2 Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for him to explain to her. 3 When the queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon, as well as the palace he had built,..........Continue Reading

  1. The queen of Sheeba came to see for herself to see if everything she had heard was true. But I did not believe what they said until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half the greatness of your wisdom was told me; you have far exceeded what she had heard.
King Solomon had more wisdom and riches than ever. Solomon reigned over 40 yrs. He was buried in his father Davids city. Solomon’s son Rohoboam succeeded.

  2. “Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on His throne to be king for the Lord your God! Because your God has loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore He made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness.”

  3. Such wealth and prosperity under Solomon’s reign as king! In addition to the wisdom that people came from all over to hear and seek counsel. God is faithful and keeps His promises when we obey!

  4. There were no electric means of mass communication in Solomon’s day, and yet Solomon’s wisdom was known far and wide. It was believed that the Queen of Sheba was from Ethiopia. It would be common for royals to interact in such ways, exchanging goods and pleasantries. It is unfortunate that when the queen praises Solomon for his wisdom that Solomon does not turn that praise to God. She certainly recognizes God as the source and praises Him for all that He has done for and with Solomon, and maybe that is a reflection of what Solomon said to her in their conversation. It is just so important for us as believers as people recognize us for all that God has gifted us with to turn that to praise to God both in our own heart and with our mouth as well.

And boy was God good to Solomon! He was faithful to His promise that He would bless Solomon with riches and land because Solomon prayed for wisdom. It is just so easy for things like that to lead to pride and disobedience when it really should lead to humility and obedience…may it be so for us! Because God has really been so good to us as well, amen?
