2 Chronicles 20 (NIV)

Jehoshaphat Defeats Moab and Ammon
1 After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat.
2 Some people came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in Hazezon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi). 3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. 4 The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him..........Continue Reading

  1. 15He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
How amazing it must have been to see this promise unfold before their eyes. The idea of a war fought and won before they even arrived! Jehoshaphat went to God first and God rewarded his obedience and He fought the battle for them. It makes you think if God can do such a mighty thing why do we not go to Him with everything first but rather try to fight so many battles on our own. He is faithful when we seek Him first in ALL things!

  2. Romans chapter 5. Peace with God. Any better news???? Complete in Jesus. And if we suffer as a child of God. He is building character. Not to be discouraged. As remembering Christ lives in us. At the perfect time Christ came to save us. God controls time. While we were still sinners. If God loved me as a rebel. How much more does he love me now. Try measuring that!!!! Think of that love that powers us everyday. The power that raised Christ is available to us every day to combat every trial and challenges. We deserve judgement as we adopted the pattern of Adam. So we trade judgement for forgiveness!!! The good news of salvation is overwhelming!!!!!

  3. What a truly amazing chapter. What an awesome display of the power of God! Jehoshaphat did what we all should do when faced with insurmountable odds (and any situation for that matter): turn to God in prayer. And notice as he prays, he reminds God of things that are pertinent and provides reasons why He should answer that are consistent with His promises and will. And I love the end, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you”. It is also neat that all of Judah, young and old are represented in those gathered to hear the king pray as well as hear God give His answer. And what an answer it is….God will give them the victory, but they still have to show up! How’s that for a balance of God’s efforts and ours! Now it is one thing for God to promise, but it is another thing for the people to believe and be at peace because of their faith. And so Jehoshaphat encourages the people to believe and sends singers at the head of the army to reveal their faith. I am pretty sure you won’t find that in a military strategy book. And yet God provides a miraculous victory that doesn’t require them to lift a sword, just collect the plunder.

It is unfortunate that after all this Jehoshaphat joins the king of Israel in an endeavor…but God just corrects him and doesn’t allow it to be successful….will they and we ever learn?1?

  4. 2 Chronicles 20 Powerful what can happen when you put your trust and faith in the Lord! What they witnessed first hand what God did for them for their faithfulness, If we could only remember the battle is not ours but God’s. The battle is God’s the victory is mine.

  5. JEHOSHAPHAT had all of Juda fast, repent and intercede. They came from all across the nation to pray corporately. All was done at the sacred Temple. We do not know what to do but are looking to you Lord.
The spirit came upon one of the men.
the Lord says to you: ‘
Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. He said just go down and attack them. You will not need to fight.
Jehoshaphat said to his army . Believe in the Lord my God and you will have success. Yes the ” choir ” led the march singing His loving kindness is forever as they walked along praising and thanking God.
Fear fell on the enemies so Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was quiet as God gave him rest. It seems as if Jehoshaphat would have learned his lesson but winds up joining Ahazia, an evil man and the Lord destroyed all his work.
Seek God first always. Not every other time. He can handle all things big and small!
