2 Chronicles 1 (NIV)

Solomon Asks for Wisdom
1 Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.
2 Then Solomon spoke to all Israel—to the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, to the judges and to all the leaders in Israel,…..Continue Reading

  1. Solomon has an amazing enncounter with God and God grants him anything he wants! Imagine such an offer and imagine your response. Solomon does not immediately jump to riches and fame, but rather wisdom annd knowledge. Solomon seemed to recognize that knowledge alone can be dangerous but wisdom is the ability to interpret that knowledge and use it in an appropriate way. God was pleased with this choice, it showed his desire to follow God, be a good leader to His people, and his humility. That choice was rewarded greatly!

  2. God asks Solomon a question and has the capacity to fulfill it better than any genie, and Solomon answers humbly and wisely. I couldn’t help but think after God’s response whether Solomon thought, boy am I glad that I didn’t ask for those things. And yet how easily it would have been because they are typical human responses. It should make us think of what we ask for from God. But Solomon reflects David’s heart in seeking what God would want and what the people need. And God in His grace gives Solomon everything He didn’t ask for. It is amazing how ready God is to bless our socks off when we do things right.

  3. Solomon asks for wisdom and knowledge and God gives it to him along with wealth, possessions and honor. The Lord is a generous giver, he gives us what we ask for, and sometimes he gives us even more than what we ask for! He is our Father who lavishes his love upon us and gives us the desires of our heart.

  4. 2 Chronicles 1
Solomon asked for wisdom to rule the people, and God gave him much more besides. May we have the wisdom to ask that God’s will be done.

  5. 2 Chronicles 1
By Solomon choosing things to run his country(wisdom and knowledge) obviously God was pleased! God added what many would have asked for, wealth possessions and honor because he is a good and loving God!

  6. Solomon did not ask God for things to satisfy his own flesh but rather asked for wisdom to accomplish what God had appointed him to.
It’s interesting that his wisdom from God did not give him the wisdom to obey or resist the flesh later on. I have often thought, when a “righteous leader” is caught in sin, that they lacked wisdom, but I guess “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” is true for believer and unbeliever when facing temptation. We do have the Holy Spirit, so we should never believe we are powerless over sin.
