Solomon Asks for Wisdom

  1. 1 Kings 3

What an amazing passage as Solomon asks the Lord for wisdom! Each day as I pray, I ask God for wisdom and guidance in my life and my dealings. If we have faith and live in the Spirit, God will give us what we need to be that which he has destined for us here on this earth!

  2. We know that Gold tells us to ask and it shall be given and then we trust His timing and wisdom in granting these things to us. But here God seems to give Solomon an immediate request based on his heart and actions at sacrifice. Solomon could have asked for wealth, power, or territory but he asked for wisdom to rule the people. He realized the stress and pressures of ruling and he did not see the benefits of armies, wealth, or strength but rather a good leader needed to be wise. God grants him wisdom and because of his heart He gives him the wealth and honor as well! We see this wisdom immediately come to play in settling this prostitute baby dispute in revealing the actual mother. This does make you realize the importance of God’s wisdom guiding ALL of our decisions, we may not be leading a kingdom but we are representing one and it’s God’s so we should do it well and as history shows us we cannot do that without Him!

  3. I do not fully understand how Solomon was given wisdom by God and yet had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Not very wise, obviously not the will of God, but the will of Solomon which ultimately led to his downfall. Solomon was young when he became king and he was smart to ask for wisdom. I guess he just did not listen to his better judgement even though he knew it was wrong. like it says in Deuteronomy 17:17

  4. Solomon only asked for wisdom that he could discern between good and bad in making judgement for his people. God granted that request and even gave him riches and honor before all nations. God also gave a promise along with this that if he walked with the Lord he would have prolonged days. This made me think of the Ten Commandments. The fifth commandment says; “Honor your father and mother that your days may be long in the land.” This is a promise from the Lord. We should always ask for God`s wisdom in our daily lives or when we read the Bible. As we walk with Him, he will guide us and teach us.

  5. ”Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.“
    ‭‭I Kings‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
