Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. Love is best expressed through action, and so when it comes to our love for God, it is expressed best in obedience. So we obey not just because we are commanded to, or because we know it is true, or we believe that it is best, but because we love God. His commands shows us what He wants and what He likes, so if we love Him, we will follow His commands. And His commands are not hard because they come from someone who loves us as well. And we can have great confidence in the truth of God. We can know that Jesus is the Son of God and our Savior because He was born as a man, He shed His blood on the cross and the Spirit confirms the truth in our hearts. And there is nothing more wonderful to know than that through Him and our faith in Him, we have eternal life!!!! AND GOD WANTS US TO KNOW THAT AND BE SECURED IN IT!!!
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
I feel like 1 John 5 is a court case. There are witnesses in heaven and witnesses on earth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Our belief in this is our “trusting the evidence.”
“He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.”
“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. There is no other way.
