Reading along with us in 1 Chronicles? Here’s today’s reading:

1 Chronicles 9 (NIV)

  1. I was in Psalm 89 today.
Impressed by God’s character including Righteousness and Justice.
So reassuring to know of his faithfulness no matter what and that He will prevail and keep us through all things.

  2. It is notable that Saul’s family line is given for a second time in this chapter. There is a focus on Jerusalem because of it’s significance as the capital as well as the location of the temple. How significant it would be to be a gatekeeper. Important information would be gleaned from people’s comings and goings, as well as protection provide by those who took that role. And what a privilege it was to be a gatekeeper for the temple of God. Not that He needs protection, but men were given this role to do their part.

  3. It was interesting to see how significant your ancestry was back then not only regarding class and stature but also your job and function. Long since gone are the days of a handed down profession from father to son. You don’t see that as commonly anymore and back then it was not only common but expected.

  4. The Levites responsibilities for gatekeeping, vessels, offerings, singing, etc.

We are now studying in 1 Samuel and I see him mentioned. “David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their trusted office.” In 1 Samuel it mentions that the prophets were formerly known as “seers.”
