Mixed throughout this geneology God stops to remind us of times when people had been rewarded for their faithfulness, like in successful military action or conquered lands. There are also stops to remind us of the results of disobedience, like in Reuben’s loss of birthright and losses in battles. Eek, I read this last night and spaced making a comment. But like Kelly, Reuben’s indiscretion jumped out at me. I believe he slept with one of Jacob’s concubines. And I too was struck by the mention of the tribes who sought God’s help and received it and yet other members forsook God and received His judgement. Just goes to show that members of the same family or at different times can regard God differently. We must continue to pursue Him and live in His power and conviction to stay the course.
