1 Chronicles 23 (NIV)

The Levites
1 When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.
2 He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. 3 The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand. 4 David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand are to be in charge of the work of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges............Continue Reading

  1. David in preparation for his death was setting everything in the kingdom up for success for his son. He was organizing people and tasks according to how God wanted things.
I love that included in the list of Levite duties was to “30They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the evening”
We should make sure this in our basic list of duties in a day. Amongst work, laundry, dishes, taxi driver, and all the other tasks we accomplish in a day we should be sure to begin and end our day saying thank you and praising God!

  2. David makes Soloman king and numbers the Levites.
The building of God’s house gives the Levites a “rest” too.
“For David said, The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:
And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.”
In the naming of all the sons, all I could think of was Pastor’s Mother’s Day teaching and all the mothers that bore these sons.

  3. It would take a lot to carry out the work of the temple and the tabernacle and God knew that. So He called the tribe of Levi to assists the priests in their service. I too was struck by the number of people and the times specifically dedicated to the worship of God. How important it is to praise Him, to recognize Him for all He is and all He has done. It is so easy to forget or become familiar with Him and His glory. We should be in awe all the time. Praise is a great way to make sure that happens and helps us to direct our focus where it should be. It is so important to remember that God does not ask us to worship Him for His benefit but for ours. He does not need the praise. We are the ones that need to praise Him!
