The Capture of Rabbah
1 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, Joab led out the armed forces. He laid waste the land of the Ammonites and went to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and left it in ruins. 2 David took the crown from the head of their king —its weight was found to be a talent of gold, and it was set with precious stones—and it was placed on David’s head. He took a great quantity of plunder from the city 3 and brought out the people who were there, consigning them to labor with saws and with iron picks and axes.   1. A giant with 6 fingers and 6 toes on each hand and foot…imagine that like something out of Lord of the Rings :)) David’s victories are securing a great legacy for future generations…unfortunate the way they handle it.

  2. Well the Arameans learned their lesson at the end of last chapter and the Ammonites learn their lesson here. They suffer greatly because they didn’t trust David and shamed his men. Hindsight is 20/20….the key is to gain wisdom to make better decisions to avoid drastic consequences. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and much is to be gained from being in the Word consistently. And the most common enemy of Israel raises it’s head and David defeats the Philistines as well, independent of how big and fierce they were. It was no match for the one who had the favor of God.
