Reading along with us in 1 Chronicles and Luke? Here’s today’s reading:
1 Chronicles 15 (NIV)
The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
1 After David had constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it. 2 Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the Lord chose them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister before him forever.”…..Continue Reading

1 Chronicles 15
The Levites were to be the only ones to carry Gods ark to the space David had made for it. The Lord chose them.
So good when we learn from our mistakes instead of repeating them. David realized that the last time he moved the ark it was not done the way God had instructed and he made every effort to correct that. The Levites carried and he made it a joyful and musical celebration this time. Also so good to see David care more about obedience to God and joyful, humble service to Him than the way he was dressed or acted. Too bad his wife, Michaal, did not have such a heart and was actually embarrased by her husband, the king, dancing and dressed like the common people. God’s oppinion should always matter more to us that man’s!

The thing that struck me while reading this is why David didn’t know and do this the first time? It just reenforces the importance for us to learn the ways of God and then pass them on to the next generation. I assume that David didn’t know it and just not do it the first time. So where was the breakdown? Was he not listening when the principles were taught or was he not told them? But it is good that he learned his lesson and was able to articulate why God was angry before and admit that he got it wrong. And then he gets it right with every I dotted and every t crossed. It is too bad that Michal didn’t appreciate his enthusiasm about God and the ark. It is so important to not let others dampen our enthusiasm about the things of God. We should always praise Him in the way that He deserves!

1 Chronicles 15
Psalm 113; Ezekiel 35; 1 Chronicles 15
David says, let’s do it right this time folks. Let’s inquire of the Lord BEFORE we do anything. After that, David, the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand were able to bring up the ark of the covenant with rejoicing. Let us remember to inquire of the Lord about before making important decisions, so we can rejoice knowing that we are doing what is right by him. God is always with us, and he will show us the way.
David does it right this time.
I was thinking the same as Pastor, didn’t he know the instructions the first time?
I was thinking about this situation and applying it to NT instructions that we dismiss (we can just refer to Galatians right?) as legalism, but what blessings are we missing or principles are we not applying? Disciplining of children? Men’s and women’s roles? Honoring our mothers and fathers? Taking a sabbath rest? The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
“For because you did not do it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order.””
