  1. That day refers to the future day of the Lord. The phrase occurs 16 times in these three closing chapters. 12;3-4,6,8-9,11 ;13;1-2,4; 14;4,6,8-9,13,20-21. The Bible Knowledge Commentary] In these final days there will be a spiritual fountain or cleansing of the nation of Israel and the people in Jerusalem. Much of this will be brought about by the persecutions in the Tribulation, as well as God`s judgement on them. For only one third of the Jewish people will survive. During this hazardous time God will banish the names of the idols from the land. Micah 5;13-14. He will overcome all factors that detract from His worship and all idolatry will become extinct. Idolatry near the time of the Second Advent of Christ will include worship of the image of the beast in the temple in Jerusalem. [ Dan. 9;27 ; 11;31; Matt. 24;15; 2 Thess.2;4; Rev.13;4.] [ The Bible Knowledge Commentary] Also during this time false prophets will be killed by their own parents or they will claim to be farmers instead. When I first read this I thought it seemed harsh. But not when you really think about it for they were leading the people astray from God and having them worship false gods. According to my reference there was a death penalty against this. [ Deuteronomy 18;20 and Deuteronomy 13;6-11.] There is also in verse 7 a reference to Christ when He was smitten on the cross for us and His disciples were scattered. Also besides His disciples it could also mean when Israel was scattered in 70 A.D. May we be not like scattered sheep but instead following the Good and True Shepherd that cares about His sheep. God bless us as we follow Him.

  2. Zech 13:6 I get it. This is Jesus! I get verse 1. A day in Jerusalem for cleansing and forgiveness of sin. Sounds like the crucifixion.

Verses 2 to 5, I can’t understand when this will occur, doesn’t seem like the past.
Verse 7, of course, is Jesus. Vss 8 & 9 sounds like an event to come.

Zechariah had insights into the time of Christ and far end times. He spoke these words, and likely knew the time and season, but was prohibited from explaining it. God’s messages are often cloudy and clear. Incredible! -gy

  3. Zachariah 13 in the last days it sounds like God’s people will go through a cleansing, evil must be abolished by getting rid of idols, false prophets who try to deceive God’s people. The obedient ones will go through a refining it says like silver and tested like gold and the people will call him by name. And say “the Lord is my God”

  4. With the repetition of “on that day” from chapter 12, we can assume it points to the same time frame. It is most likely referring to the second coming of Christ and how He will begin His earthly reign. It is no surprise that He would clean house with Jerusalem/the earth coming out of the 7 year tribulation. It shows how He cares about purity and truth and He will both cleanse sins as well as deal with those who have misled people in His name. Verse 7 appears to refer to Jesus, but it is hard to assign the other things described to the time that He has on the earth the first time. It is more descriptive of the end times….but it also shows that God always secures a remnant and forever draws people to Himself, where in spite of the evil influences around them, they recognize the truth and value of believing God and following Him. May that be what describes our lives…..
