Titus 2 (NIV)
Doing Good for the Sake of the Gospel
1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.……Continue Reading
Titus 2
Good lessons for everyone on how to live a good life.
Thank God that He by His grace has saved us, for without Him doing that we could never be saved. Titus 2:11 {For the grace of God that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men.} He revealed Himself to all mankind as foretold in scriptures and came the first time as a Savior to die for our sins. The second time He will appear in glory as King of kings and judge the world of sin. It will depend on whether people are written in the book of life and if they have trusted in Christ alone for their salvation. It is not depended on our goodness or our works for that would fail. Here are some key verses. Titus 2:13,14 {Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, Who gave Himself for us from all iniquity, and purified unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.} The good works comes after salvation. It doesn`t earn our salvation. It is a result of what Christ has done in our hearts after we have come to Christ. Such wonderful scriptures to teach us how to walk in Him. Seek Him, Serve Him.
All of us should live in a way pleasing to God, but Paul instructs Titus to teach certain things toward different groups presumably because there would be a tendency for them not to do them. Different ages, genders and circumstances create different dynamics of temptation and falling into ungodly habits. Generally those who are older should be setting an example to those who are younger and men should minister to other men and women to women. This both removes a level of temptation or misunderstanding that could happen otherwise, but even more so, there being a greater understanding of what those of the same gender would be dealing with in their lives and in their souls. And all this is for the testimony of the gospel and that the gospel would not be discredited in any way. Because the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to everyone. And it’s intent is not to justify sin, but to give us a reason to say no to it. This present age is evil and temptation to follow its ways are all around, but when we grasp hold of how good God is and how His ways therefore must be for our good, we find the influence to reject the ways of sin and the world and embrace the ways of God. And when Jesus returns we will see even more clearly that God’s ways are the best ways.
Having issues with members of my extended family who are not getting along. This is causing problems with an event I’m planning to honor my mother. Upon reading this, it occurred to me that the only thing I can do is what Paul described to Timothy – In everything set them an example by doing what is good. Show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about you. And to also pray, pray, and pray some more for relationships to be restored and most importantly that they would know Jesus.
Titus 2
Imagine if Christians and unbelievers alike followed these instructions. The world would look a lot different!
Most sin happens because we put ourselves in situations where we can be tempted. God is aware of the shortcomings of men and women and so is Satan so this world appeals to the parts of us that will easily go astray. God speaks to the roles, responsibilites, and expectations of us based on who we are, men or women. Even with clear expectations that often still gets misused in this world when we see people either not properly step into their roles or take advantage of them. God is good, His plans for us are good, it is us that taints the perfect plan of God when we choose to disobey and do things our own ways.
Titus 2
Sound doctrine. How many churches teach sound doctrine today or just empty words that people’s itching ears want to hear. Wholesome teaching. Jesus Christ is the central emphasis. And all teaching must be found in his word. All different ages in church. Just as in. Life. In a family older wiser teach the younger about truth and life. Same in a church. The process of life we go through is to comfort others in their difficulties. Teach but more importantly our actions go before our words. On a flight yesterday saw a mother coming down isle before take off. Her young daughter behind her crutching her pillow crying no seats left together. So someone got up and gave up their seat so they could be together. So easy to show the love of Jesus today.
Sound doctrine coupled with good works and blameless behavior further the message of the gospel.
”For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.“
Titus 2:11-14 NKJV
Titus 2
This is a perfect blueprint in the bible how we should behave at all ages. Being an example to others younger in the faith or in age. In a world where anything goes a younger person or new may not even know they are doing wrong if compared to ungodly people. Which is why being in the word is so important. That’s why we are to be an example. It’s just as important to check ourselves because we are are not perfect in any way.
