Reading along with us in Ruth, Proverbs, & Psalms? Here’s today’s reading:

Ruth 4 (NIV)

Boaz Marries Ruth
1 Meanwhile Boaz went up to the town gate and sat down there just as the guardian-redeemer he had mentioned came along. Boaz said, “Come over here, my friend, and sit down.” So he went over and sat down.
2 Boaz took ten of the elders of the town and said, “Sit here,” and they did so.……Continue Reading

  1. First let me digress and take a moment to giggle at the visual picture of us nowadays going into a bank, a realator or insurance office and signing our agreement by leaving our shoe! LOL

But in all seriousness, Boaz took every step to do things the most appropriate, honest way he could. He went to the other man who could marry Ruth and gathered elders for witness and made sure things were done right before he stepped in and married Ruth. All steps in God’s meticulous plan leading to the geneology of David. Just another ressurance that God is always working even when we don’t think so. Even when things seem so bad we remain faithful like Naomi drawing near to Him rather than running away and He works all things out for good. The story of Naomi and Ruth is certainly evident of that truth.

  2. The whole situation was in God`s hands. Ruth was David`s great grandmother. And generations latter Jesus Christ was born. God bless.

  3. The purpose of this account was to show David’s line, but Boaz shows again that he is a proper example to follow for all future generations. First, he assembles witnesses that have authority to validate the transaction. He presents the offer to the kinsman redeemer in a wise way, maybe knowing that he would not be able/want to accept Ruth, but being forthright in how he presents it. And what we can presume is God’s hand and this man’s will that he releases the land and Ruth to Boaz. And God blesses the marriage with a child that softens the loss that Naomi has felt. It just goes to show that sad circumstances are never the end of the story with our great God and He can orchestrate many things to bring us joy in spite of our suffering…

  4. ”And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him. Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “There is a son born to Naomi.” And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.“
    ‭‭Ruth‬ ‭4‬:‭15‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I was also thinking how this is a great story of God’s sovereignty. He intervenes or orchestrates all of these events and relationships that result in David and the lineage of Jesus, even down to a humble, faithful Moabite woman. And look at the prophecy of the neighbor women “may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher in your old age,” certainly through this child and his descendants (which would have been cut off had Boaz not redeemed it) “life” is restored and the path of eternal life fulfilled in the future.
