Romans 6 (NIV)

Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?……Continue Reading

  1. 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Death physically brings freedom from any further influence of sin. You are dead. Impossible to sin.

Death spiritually cannot occur while living, unless one has been implanted in the crucifixion of Christ. In effect, His crucifixion became ours, as though we were spiritually on that cross. Being spiritually dead to sin makes (or can make) further sin impossible just as effectively as being killed physically. Can this condition of spiritual death be grasped without robbing from God? Curious, pondering, -reb

  2. Thank the Lord for His death and resurrection. After being brought to Christ through faith alone we are new creations in Him. But we still have the old nature and we must make the choice of following Jesus or falling into sin. For we are slaves to the one we obey; either of sin which leads to spiritual death or of spiritual life which we have in Christ. Romans 6: 16 { Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?} This is a daily minute by minute walk with Jesus. Thank God; He gives us a way to make right with Him and that we can come before Him and confess our sins. This is as a believer. 1 John 1:9 { If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.} Another thing to remember is that when we sin; we break our fellowship with our Heavenly Father which can`t have sin in His presence. 1 John 1: 5c { —God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.} 1 John 1: 7 { But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.} So we are walking with God and each other. God bless.

  3. Now that I know the truth about the gospel, why would I ever want to be a slave to sin? It leads to shame, destruction and death. I want to be a slave to righteousness. It leads to all that is good: holiness, peace, contentment and eternal life. May the Lord keep this in the forefront of my mind when I am tempted to do something that is wrong.

  4. Such power has been made available to us if we would just live in it. The choice is still ours about whether we will live to sin or act righteously, but Jesus has done everything to make doing what is right easier. Through our faith in Him, we are identified with both the death He died to sin as well as the resurrection power to live in righteousness. But we must believe and decide what we will identify with. It is truly amazing to see all that God has done to transform us and yet still honors our free will to make it all work for us. And yet all glory goes to Him because He really has done all the work to make it all possible.

  5. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 ¶ Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

  6. ”For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.“
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Sin has no power. When we recognize our “death” to sin, it renders it powerless. The problem is that we try to resuscitate it. Do we really believe that we are dead to it? Then we will walk forward in the Spirit, in righteousness, leaving it in the dust. If we don’t believe we are dead to sin, we give it power, and we delve into the flesh with all its excuses, “I can’t help it.” “The devil made me do it.” “I was triggered.” We are responsible for what we believe and what we believe has power.

  7. Romans 6 “Freedom from sin’s grasp”

We are no longer under sin’s control, we have a new life. Verse 4 We were therefore buried with him through Baptism into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the father, we too may live a new life. 6 our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with. We have a freedom from sins’ hold on us of course as we are of the flesh we will always fall short of his glory when we stumble or fall away but he forgives us when we give ourselves completely to God, we have forgiveness through the cross, because of what he did for us.

  8. Romans 6

Many of Paul’s letters contain exhortations to the people of the churches he planted to “be who you are in Christ. Be the new creation you now profess to be.” The Word contains commands and descriptions of how a follower of Christ should live. God makes it clear in His Word that a Christian has been set free from bondage to sin and death. We have been set free to NOT SIN. Before…we were slaves to sin, but now that we are free from that bondage, we must see and acknowledge that we belong to another Master…our Lord Jesus Christ.

We must never forget that our Freedom from sin was bought at a price we could never pay…and in paying that price, Jesus purchased us as His own. He didn’t set us free to just go off and do what we want…to serve ourselves. No, He bought us and to set us Free from sin and live for Him…to have life and have it abundantly.

So the call is…be who you are. And if you believe in Jesus Christ, then you are a new creation who is no longer enslaved to sin. Live out that faith in every thought, word, and deed, through the power of the Holy Spirit who now gives life to your mortal body (preview of Chapter 8 😄)

  9. It really is an amzing gift Jesus has granted us to live with him for all eternity but it is a gift we must accept. If someone gives you a gift and you simply put it on a shelf have to be opened it certainly does you no good or does not bring you the intended joy. We must choose to accept His gift and receive the power over sin and the grave, we must cast off our old self and live new with the mind of Christ.
