Revelation 10 (NIV)
The Angel and the Little Scroll
1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2 He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke.............Continue Reading
So the commentary mentioned that many people think this “angel” is again Jesus. Face like the sun, thundering voice that all makes sense.
This mysterious book and contents God did not want recorded reminds us that our thoughts are not God’s thoughts our finite minds do not know everything God does and there is probably no need to as we struggle with the parts of His purpose and plan that we do know.
I love the picture of John eating the book like when Ezekiel ate the scroll. It is such a powerful reminder that we should ingest not just read God’s word. They become a part of us and our body, mind, and spirit!
Revelation 10:9 So I went to the angel and said to him, “ Give me the little book.” And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be sweet as honey in your mouth.”
I found this confusing until I read these notes in my study bible –
God’s Word tastes sweet to us as believers because it brings encouragement, , but is sour to our stomachs because we have to warn unbelievers of the coming judgement.
Until recently, I have struggled with sharing the truths of God and his promises. With end times prophecy unfolding before our eyes, I have a new conviction to spread the word. This passage is a good reminder. Though it may be an uncomfortable conversation but His word must be proclaimed.
Revelation 10:6 & 7 speak to me. It is sworn as truth by the name of the Creator, that time will cease. Earth and heaven cease to exist, (all life), and therefore time ceases, Rev. 20:11. Read again, II Peter 3 for another witness. The angel sounds the 7th trumpet, and the mystery of God is complete!
Rev. 20:11ff ushers in the Great White Throne judgment, the final, second resurrection of the dead, destruction of Satan, the unsaved, death and hell. John 11:24 “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Lazarus will be there!
I Corinthians 15:51ff explains what happens to the church, the saints, the redeemed from the beginning of time, on that day. There will be the last trumpet, (7th trumpet). A split moment, twinkling of the eye. Dead raised incorruptible. Flesh and blood take on immortality, incorruptible nature forever more! And at that last resurrection, it is truly foretold, Death is swallowed up in victory! Rev. 20:14. There is no death, suffering, crying, pain, all such has passed away, Rev 22. For the dead, small and great are all judged according to their works, as written in the books. Those not found in the book of life, receive the second death, Rev 20:12-15. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Oh BTW: of all the vìsions, sounds and wonders John recorded in Revelation, he alone heard seven thunders, utter unspeakable things, and sealed up. God does not want mankind to know. What wonders does God yet have for His creation? Perhaps we will know in eternity! Peace to all, -gordy
This angel is announcing the final judgement on all the earth. His feet on land snd sea. The seventh trumpet will release the seven bowl
Judgements. Bringing an end to the present world. Eating of the scroll The word of God sweet as honey. But John’s stomach turned sour as Gods judgement is about to be poured out on the earth
Oopps, lest I be misunderstood, Chapter 10:6 & 7 talk about the 7th trumpet and time stopping. But the seventh trumpet does not sound until 11:15ff. The end of time!
John sees a mighty angel come down from heaven. I believe that this could be Christ. Because of his appearance and his actions. [ clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow upon his head, and his face like the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire]. He held a little book open, and set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth. Then it says that his voice was loud like a lion roaring. I don`t see how this could be anyone else. He commanded John to eat the little book. It was as sweet as honey but became bitter in his belly. Then he was told to prophesy to peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.
Revelation 10
Revelation 10 – John sees another mighty Angel coming from Heaven the description John gives of him he was robed in a cloud with a rainbow above his head and his face like the sun with two fiery pillars for legs which he places one on the sea the other on the land and when he shouts it’s like a lion I believe it’s Jesus coming to bring the final judgment. It’s not revealed what’s in the scroll but John is told to eat the scroll as Ezekiel did in chapter 3:1 and the scroll will taste as sweet as honey but leave a sourness in his stomach, my commentary says Gods words are as sweet as honey but the sourness comes knowing what lies ahead for the unbelievers so as a church and children of God we need to be spreading the Gospel as much as we can and to continually pray for the people around us.
Hebrews 1
I can understand why many here have said this creature mentioned as an angel is in fact Jesus. Many of the descriptions given are similar to what we find in the first chapter of Jesus. But the being is clearly declared as an angel several times in the passage and so therefore, I don’t think it is Jesus. There is a big difference between beings that are created and the creator. In verse 8, John is also instructed by the voice that he has heard from heaven to take the scroll from the angels hand. I believe this voice from heaven is Jesus..the one who revelation this is….and so He cannot be the One speaking as well as the one with the scroll in his hands. He is also a being that is being given directions from heaven as opposed to giving directions. And isn’t it awesome that in verse 7 a connection is made between what is happening at this point of Revelation and the Old Testament prophets. I wonder if that is mostly related to what the prophets said about the day of the Lord.
And this scroll and it’s description is interesting. It points to the reality that some things God tells us are pleasant to hear and other things that are hard to hear, the coming judgements among them. It is important that we recognize that the whole counsel of God is to our benefit even if somethings don’t tickle our fancy as much….
Jesus is viewed in other scriptures as an angel if though He is not. In the Old Testament Christ took different forms and sometimes people at first thought he was. This is why I thought that Jesus was this mighty angel and I thought the voice from heaven was God the Father. Does John go in such detail description with any of the other angels. I mean the physical description. Anyways that`s my thought.
“Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.”
This reminded me of Daniel who was told to seal up the book he received: Daniel 12:4, 8-9
“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
“And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”
