  1. It is hard when God seems to go silent or acts in ways that seem contrary to our understanding of Him. It is in those times where must cling to our faith knowing well the kind of God He is and knowing He must have some reason to do what He is doing and realizing that we are extremely shortsighted compared to Him. But Psalms like these also show us we can call out to God in times like these and make sure our doubts, questions and confusion draw us to God for answers rather than drawing us away. We can know God does not support evil, but does let free will reign and sometimes it may appear that bad people are getting good things and good people are getting bad things. It was also interesting to see in Psalm 83 that Asaph asks God to work in the way He did with Midian and mentions some of the Midianite kings who were defeated by Gideon. It is good to have reference points for how God has acted, but if He chooses not to act like that in our moment, we should be still and know that He is God.

  2. You can identify with Asaph in these chapters especially today when it seems that those in charge of countries and people seems so evil. Things seems so unjust and we ache for leadership that would just be honorable, moral, and God fearing. It reminded me the importance of praying for my country and other countries around the world rather than just feeling overwhelmed by the scope of it all. God is bigger than all of these problems and His desire is to seek Him and ask Him for help in the small things and in this case the great.

  3. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.” This is still happening today, it’s amazing that words in the Bible from long, long ago can still be relevant to this day. Proves how true God’s Word is. “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere…” I can hear the Living Hope worship team singing this song in my head giving me joy in the morning : )
