For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” Of Asaph. A psalm.
1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.

  1. Restoration is always waiting for us, God is always ready to welcome us back when we have chose to go astray. I like the picture used of the vineyard walls being let down. The walls around a vineyard are for protection of the valuable things inside and when they aren’t there that is subject to damage and theft. When we open our lives to sin then we put our heart and life at risk of destruction. Satan will steal our joy, we won’t experience God’s comfort, peace, and protection. But when we turn away from sin and back to Him, He receives us again and again! Undeserved, unconditional love….just amazing!

  2. How foolish we are to stray away from God. He has so much planned for us just like He did for Israel. And He gave them negative consequences for their actions which led to sentiments expressed here as to them wondering why He seemed distant and angry. Well they should have known why. It only makes sense that God would support His will for us, because any other will is opposed to Him and bad for us. So it is His love that causes Him to discipline us. And so He cries out as in the second Psalm, if you had only listened to me, I would be able to bless, empowered and provide for you.

  3. “Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.” When we are discouraged, this verse is as fitting for us as it was back then. Our God is the One who restores us – he heals, he comforts and he gives us peace in every situation. When his face shines on us, we can handle anything that attacks us because he is our protector and we are his children. And we are saved in many ways – from eternal death, from our own self inflicted wounds, and from other people’s attacks. Yes, this verse is a good one to memorize when we are going through the trials of life.
