  1. Psalm 78 gives an account of the history of the people of Israel and marks mostly their defiance against God in spite of all that He had done and revealed about Himself. We too need to be careful about how familiar we become with God and watch the various ways that sin and deception creep in. The Psalm also describes how God responded both in correction and mercy towards them. Psalm 79 then mourns the fact that Israel is in a state of correction having their enemies triumph over them and crying out to God to see why He is allowing this and seeking His direction, intervention and mercy. How good it is to know that God is always available to us in good times and bad, in times of blessing and correction and is always willing to lead and guide us and reveal what He is doing and why. He is just working on His time frame and not ours…but all to our benefit.

  2. It is important to remember all God had won for us and just as important to remember all the time we took that for granted. We aren’t that different than the people of Israel putting things before God, following our selfish desires instead of His ways. We need not only remember them but tell them to others, in particular our children. People love and appreciate those they know, and if we don’t introduce our children, our friends, and family to the God we know and love so much, how will they come to know and love Him too. They can also learn from our mistakes, like we hopefully learn from the mistakes made by the Israelites. I share with my children my times of obedience and blessing, my times of disobedience and correction, and remind them that no matter where I am in my walk with God He was always there.
