Psalms 73 (NIV)

A psalm of Asaph.
1 Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;
I had nearly lost my foothold.……Continue Reading

  1. Asaph is definitely showing frustration to the appearance that wicked people seem to live “good” lives. They seem to have more and struggle less than himself and others that follow God and live obedient lives. Not much different from today where we see the rich get richer, the dishonest getting ahead, and those who hurt others seemingly flourishing. However, we trust in God and we know, like Asaph concludes here, that they are on slippery ground. The benefits they may be experiencing here on earth are just that, temporary and fleeting. When faced with eternity in paradise with my Father and Creator I am content in the struggle of this life, content knowing I am living for His glory and not my own. I am seeking more than just money and stuff. Those people who seem so rich, powerful, and successful often are not truly content because they are trying to fill themselves with “stuff” instead of God’s love and peace.

  2. How important it is for us to assess life from the viewpoint of God and heaven as opposed to the perspective of earth and people. It does seem according to the later, that people that defy God are getting away with something and appear freer to do whatever that can and want. But they are corrupting their hearts and their relationships, they are hardening themselves to the reality of God (which is the worst consequence of all) and then at least potentially, enslaving themselves to desires, that appear at first that they can be controlled, but then the desires control them. And destruction awaits them and they don’t even realize or care. But to those who align themselves to the former, we have a consistent peace and joy knowing that God is in control. We have the fruit of the Spirt that makes us good with ourselves within and good with people without. Our relationships will be filled with love, humility and understanding. And God promises to be with us through it all. He makes the 5 Ps of the Christian life possible: His person, His presence, His power, His provisions (which His promises are part of) and His plan. Praise be His name! Also, Psalm 37 is a good reference point for this passage.

  3. PSALMS 73

    The words spoken here by Asaph can definitely be used to describe the nature and actions of the wickedness currently on display in this country and the world. Pride, arrogance, malice, violence, and threats of oppression. It is all happening now. They even sometimes claim to be “Christian” yet stand for, represent, and support everything that is ungodly! And their followers still turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. The deception is great. Prayer for a spiritual revival!

  4. “I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.” Do not be discouraged by the “goings on” of the world. Keep our focus not on what other people are doing, but on the things of the Lord. Keep our eyes on the Lord for he is our hope. Keep our minds in perfect peace because he is with us, we are his children and soon he will take us home to a place surrounded by his endless glory.
