Reading along with us in Judges, Proverbs, and Psalms? Here’s today’s reading:
Psalms 60-61 (NIV)
For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A miktamof David. For teaching. When he fought Aram Naharaimand Aram Zobah, and when Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

you have been angry—now restore us!…..Continue Reading
God does not always grant us victory in our battles and that is likely for a myriad of reasons, most likely our own disobedience or lack of faith. We saw that time and time again in Judges. The amazing thing about God is the fact that He always allows us to return to Him no matter how far we fall away. We know He is faithful, ever present, and provides for us what we need….even when He doesn’t provide what we want. True trust comes in knowing He works all things out for the good of those who love and obey so we must do just that!
Psalms 60-61. God has been our rock and refuge in the past and now in the present and will always be there for us in the future. All we need to do is call and rely on Him. As we see here with David. verses 2,3,4. God is ever faithful to His word and when He says something, it will come to pass. God bless you all.
I haven’t made note of the introductions to the past few Psalms where David gives the circumstances that he is facing that provide the backdrop/motivation for the Psalm. Here it is very specific when David brought foreign nations into submission early in his kingship. But temporary defeats are not mentioned in the historical account, but the reality, day by day there are ups and downs in battle. And David sees God as the source of success, so if there is a setback, it is because God is not with them. And how fitting it is to seek God in every facet of life and recognize our need for Him when things are hard or go wrong. He is always a source of wisdom, hope and power, our refuge and strength. It is always wise to seek His counsel to see if the way we have chosen is the right way and look for ways that He is leading to refine that way. It is often hardship that makes us more aware of our need for Him and causes us to seek Him more. And that is never a bad thing.
