Psalms 58-59 (NIV)

For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam.
1 Do you rulers indeed speak justly?
Do you judge people with equity?
2 No, in your heart you devise injustice,
and your hands mete out violence on the earth.
3 Even from birth the wicked go astray;
from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies..........Continue Reading

  1. 9 You are my strength, I watch for you;
    you, God, are my fortress,
    10 my God on whom I can rely.
    I imagine David singing these words knowing Saul is trying to kill him pales in comparison to any trouble I face but the words still bring such comfort. Satan really does want to destroy us, our families, our communities….and when we know we have a fortress we can rely on when those attacks come it helps to face the situations with hope and faith that God will bring us victory. His timing for when things will end is not for me to understand but I know He is with me in the battle!

  2. Sure judges in the Old Testament time. Made up their own laws as they saw fit. Standing before an ungodly judge back then or an ungodly judge now Would scare me a whole lot. Psalm 59. David had a bunch of enemies because of jealousy. Always love the way David ends his psalms. Protected by almighty God. And praising God. Even under terrible circumstances

  3. David has strong words for his enemies here….and to express them to God is the best place to vent them. He is the one who can do something and He is also the one with the wisdom to know just what should be done. It is especially hard when we see people in authority taking advantage of their position as well as people who are vulnerable. It is good that we serve an omniscient God who cares about justice. He will deal with evil in due time and we need to be patient for what that time is. And David shows us in Psalm 59 that in spite of the evil or injustice we face, there is always a reason to praise God. He is always a refuge and a place of comfort and consolation. Jesus certainly understands having enemies and being treated unjustly. So He knows what we feel, and yet He prayed, Father forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing. It is only in His power that we can follow our New Testament command to love our enemies, even as God deals with them as He see fit.

  4. God will bring justice upon the wicked….it won’t be pretty.

    The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance;
    He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked,
    So that men will say,
    “Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
    Surely He is God who judges in the earth.”
