Psalms 56-57 (NIV)
For the director of music. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath.
1 Be merciful to me, my God,

Psalms 56-57
“I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until the disaster has passed.”
This really stood out to me in the form of a visual picture in my mind. There was just ruin all around me and like a small child I was just wrapped up in this beautiful, blanket like wing. The juxtaposition of the ugliness of the situation and the peace and comfort of me under that strong, beautiful wing. That is how we find contentment no matter what the situation because that is where we lay when everything else feels like it is on fire.
How comforting it is to know that when people and circumstances are against us, that we have a God who is for us and with us. Oh that we can trust in Him to accomplish what is best in everything we face and what confidence that gives us when we face it so we can be courageous and strengthened to do what we are supposed to do. And all of this is based in His mercy that we can cry out for. So provide for me God because of your mercy, not because of my strength or righteousness. How amazing that God even allows and even encourages a prayer like that!! For that, He is to be exalted and praised. May His love for us spur us to more love and good deeds. How wonderful to have affirmed God’s love for us and how big and expansive it is!!!
