Reading along with us in some selections in Psalms and Proverbs? Here’s today’s reading:
Psalms 46-47 (NIV)
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth. A song.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
Psalms 46&47: Psalm 46 is one of my favorites. “Be still and know that I am God.”
Psalms 46-47
Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
What powerful words are found in Psalm 46:1. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.” What comfort there is in ever present. When trouble comes our way and things happen that we can’t seem to handle, God doesn’t run away, He pulls in closer and is with us. And we can run to Him and find refuge and strength. And when we do, we find a God who is powerful, yet compassionate. One can handle problems, but can also handle us. He is to be trusted and exalted in response to who He is. We can be still because we know that He is God. The nations can clap their hands to Him because He is the king of the earth! We can let go of a lot of stuff because He is in control and His will will be accomplished. All honor and praise to Him!
