Reading along with us in some selections from Psalms & Proverbs? Here’s today’s reading:
Psalms 22 (NIV)
For the director of music. To the tune of “The Doe of the Morning.” A psalm of David.
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?
2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
Psalm 23
Psalm 22
A powerful reminder to rejoice in the Lord not only in the good time but the bad. That our God never leaves us even when it feels like all is falling in around us He is there and we must call out to Him and cling to His goodness, His promises, and trust He will deliver us in His perfect timing!
David’s words are so accurate to what Jesus would suffer Wonder if this is 100 percent prophetic or is David also going through trials. Most likely both. Which certainly comforts us as we face trials. Great verses which destroys the concept of fetus or baby (Verses 9-11) because even before creation we were known. And the following verses. Well. What can you add to pain and rejection of God in flesh all because of undeserved Love. Poured out to us!!
Psalm 22
Psalm 20-21
So much in this psalm. David, mocked my the people, felt lower than a worm for trusting in the Lord to deliver him from his troubles. Deliverance came to his ancestors as it would to him. One day, everyone (the rich to the nearly dead) will kneel before Him.
Psalm 22
Prophetic Psalm. When I am going through something hard, I wonder if God truly understands my pain. Theoretically, I know he does. This Psalm describing that both David and Jesus suffered greatly when they were living tells me that human suffering is not foreign to God – he experienced it when he came 2000 years ago.
I love how so many of David’s Psalms start with desperation and questions and end with praise and affirmation of truth. Isn’t that often the pattern of things for believers? We initially face something and God seems to be absent because He is working behind the scenes and we wonder what is going on and where He is. But then He works things out and we see how His plan unfolds and we see how His ways are always the best ways.
But how powerful this Psalm is as well as it gives such a vivid picture of Jesus’ death. How can we read the first verse and not think of Him crying that from the cross? How can we not be struck by the descriptive words of hands and feet being pierced and others casting lots for clothing. How horrific and lonely Jesus death was and yet He died willingly so that we could be right with God and have Him in our lives!
Psalm 22
22I will declare your name to my people;
in the assembly I will praise you.
23You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
24For he has not despised or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.
