  1. 8 O Lord our God, you answered them;
    you were a forgiving God to them,
    but an avenger of their wrongdoings.
    Thank you Lord for your mercy and for your ear that listens to the likes of me!

  2. I am struck by the description of what our response should be to the sovereignty of God. In verse 1 he says ‘let the peoples tremble!’ and ‘let the earth quake’!. I think of Isaiah 6 where he is convicted of his sin and believes that it is over for him. He trembled. We have to remember that balance between God’s forgiveness and ‘an avenger of their wrongdoings’. (vs 8)

  3. How important to understand the balance of what is fitting in our approach to God. There is a place to tremble as we humble ourselves in light of His power and authority. It is right to praise and exalt because He is awesome and good. But He is also personal. He has engaged with people and people have engaged with Him. And therefore, in dealing with humans, He must correct us for the wrong we do, but also forgive as well. He has to be gracious and merciful to deal with people like us. But He is also no patsy that accepts everything we bring to Him. He is balanced and that is exactly wha we need Him to be and we nee to be balanced in our approach to Him as well.

  4. 1 The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!
    He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
    2 The Lord is great in Zion;
    he is exalted over all the peoples.
    3 Let them praise your great and awesome name!
    Holy is he!
