  1. This psalm was written by on of King Davids musicians. Asaph ministered next to the Arc of the Covenant. WOW This musician has seen a lot. I want to do a more in-depth study on him.

  2. The worship of God also includes wisdom in our treatment of people. There was and is a tendency to defend the wicked and the unjust especially when we are reaping benefits from them. But God’s heart is set against them. God’s heart is for the weak and vulnerable, the orphan and widow. Those are the ones we should give our attention to and take care of. And we worship God by doing so!

    I assume the Psalm is addressed to some form of leaders, those who thought themselves as “gods”. They were the ones who were making poor judgements about people but in spite of their earthly influence they will die like everyone else. God needs to judge the earth and settle the score with regards to how the weak of the world are treated. We want to make sure we are on the right side, doing the right thing to people when He does!

  3. Those who have positions of authority over others should rule justly (Psalm 82:2) and with compassion, because ultimately we are all subject to the Most High (vs 6) and it is God who will judge all nations.

  4. 3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless;
    maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
    4 Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
    5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
    they walk about in darkness;
    all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
