Reading along with us through Psalm 61-70? Here’s today’s reading:

Psalm 63 (ESV)

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
    my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
    as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
    beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
    my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
    in your name I will lift up my hands.

  1. This Psalm references ‘my soul’ three times.
    • My soul thirsts for you
    • My soul will be satisfied
    • My soul clings to you
    He also references the flesh, the mouth, the hands
    • My flesh faints for you
    • My lips will praise you
    • I will lift up my hands
    • My mouth will praise you
    • I will sing for joy
    • The mouths of liars will be stopped
    It starts as a lament but then moves into confident expectation. The theme of integrity and personal persecution continues in this Psalm, particularly the theme of lies.

    Our firm confidence in God should result in an outward expression of praise.

  2. when I remember you upon my bed,
    and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
    7 for you have been my help,
    and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.❤️

  3. 3 Because your steadfast love is better than life,
    my lips will praise you.
    4 So I will bless you as long as I live;
    in your name I will lift up my hands.
    5 My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
    and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,

  4. God can fill and satisfy every inch of your life. A wonderful statement on why he is deserving of love above all others.

  5. Oh that we would all have the level of desire for and dependence on and devotion to God expressed in this Psalm. There are many reasons given here why we should. Whether it is because we are in a dry and weary land, because we have seen His glory, or we recognize that His love is better than life or because He has been our help, there is always a reason and opportunity to praise Him. And as our hearts are inclined to the worship of His name, our faith is then built up and then our wills should follow Him.
