Reading along with us through Psalm 61-70? Here’s today’s reading:

Psalm 61 (ESV)

Hear my cry, O God,
    listen to my prayer;
from the end of the earth I call to you
    when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
    that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.

  1. Lead me to the rock
    that is higher than I,
3 for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
4 Let me dwell in your tent forever!
Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!

  2. Where would we be without God as a resource for life? What a privilege to have such a good and powerful God to cry out to and take refuge in! When life presses hard against us, it gives and opportunity to press deeper into God as David does here. I like Psalm 61:2. I call because I am weak not strong, but need someone higher than I to help. How blessed that God is willing and there is no better one to take refuge in…..

  3. Lead me to the rock
    that is higher than I,
3 for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
4 Let me dwell in your tent forever!
Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!

  4. Psalm 61:1-3 (ESV)
    1
Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; 2  from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, 3  for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.

No matter where I live and no matter where I go I can cry out to God and have confidence that his ear does not wane due to distance. The Psalmist cries out from the ‘end of the earth’. I cry out to God because I know that my rock is ‘higher than I’. He is bigger than my headaches, my failing health. He is bigger than my heartache, loneliness, depression. He is my refuge, a strong tower against the storms of life.
