  1. I hope none of us has the type of enemies like those spoken of in this Psalm, but if we do, we know that we have the Lord as our defender. Certainly there are evil people in this world and because of their selfishness or just plain mean demeanor, especially when motivated by our true enemy, they will cause hardship for us. It is important for us to do 3 things: remember our battle is not against flesh and blood, not do anything to warrant their attacks, and let the Lord fight our battles. I believe we have Psalms like this to guide us in our prayers and even to recognize the kinds of things we bring to God, but we also have to remember that in Christ we love our enemies even as we are trusting God to execute justice and vengeance according to His will and plan. What a comfort to know that He is our rescuer, defender, deliverer, protector and place of refuge. Our ability to do right towards those who do wrong to us can and should be based on all that God is to us. And we can know that He will know just how far justice or punishment towards our enemies should go. That’s why we let Him deal with it and let vengeance be HIs and not ours…..

  2. I was thinking about much of the evil that abounds right now…and into the realm of politics….abortion, sexual deviancy, socialism, marxism. We should absolutely depend on God, share the gospel, etc and choose our leaders with Biblical guidance. However, what is our responsibility as believers to fight for truth and righteousness?

    Even though David is clearly calling on God for vengeance and defense, he is still engaged directly in battle.

    O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation,
    You have covered my head in the day of battle.

  3. 12I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted,
    and will execute justice for the needy.
    13Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name;
    the upright shall dwell in your presence.
