  1. 3“I will not enter my house
    or get into my bed,
4I will not give sleep to my eyes
    or slumber to my eyelids,
5until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

  2. These Psalms of ascent always focus their attention on David, Jerusalem and the temple. All were interconnected in the sense of David’s role in God’s plan. Although David would not build the temple, his descendant would, based in David’s relationship with God and the promise that God gave to David. But David certainly wanted to build a house for God as expressed in the verses quoted by Bob above. And just consider the promise reiterated in the Psalm as well: that a descendant of David would reign on a thrown in Jerusalem if they only obeyed God. Just imagine how different the world and the life of the Jews would have been if that had happened? Just consider the promise given here about the provisions and protection God would give?

And although God’s promise to us is not so grand, there are promises given to us. And how different our lives would be if we only continued to grow in our relationship with God and followed His ways? God’s people have always had an obedience problem because they have a faith and relationship problem.

  3. David had a close relationship with God. He is determined to build a house for the Lord, a place for the people to worship and priests to serve. God has made promise to David, “The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.”
