Psalm 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
I see the distinction of mercy and grace here in this verse. Slow to anger speaks of God withholding judgment on mankind. Abounding in steadfast love speaks of his grace toward us, granting us what we did not earn or deserve. Verses 9-10 also speak of his mercy because he does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. This psalm is an antiphonal praise-filled response to God’s mercy and grace.
“The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.”

What a powerful Psalm! I was struck by verse 1 as well as all the others….all my inmost being, praise His holy name. David understands how important it is not to just give lip service to God, to look good on the outside but have corruption, sin and deceit on the inside. If there are good things on the inside, the outside will follow. And then wow, forget not all his benefits. How important it is to have that truth and the benefits that follow locked away inside us to reenforce our faith and encourage our souls. Discouragement, fear, pride, anger, worry, selfishness, etc all war against our souls and that’s why David encourages there to be praise there and praise based in all His benefits! And with benefits like this, how easy is it to trust God with all our lives! How wonderful that God doesn’t hold our sin against us and allows to start fresh with Him. We will most likely have to deal with the consequences of our sin, but to have no condemnation or God pointing out our wrong doing as a mode of operation with us is great. He is certainly worthy of our praise within and our obedience without (ie on the outside)! Amen?
One of my favorite Psalms !
8The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
