  1. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight
    I love these verses! This chapter reminds me of how much we question God in this world. We always need to know the “why” in every situation instead of just trusting and remember that His thoughts are so much higher than ours. We can’t begin to know all the “whys” nor would we likely understand even if we did. But with God we always know the “hows”. How do we get through something, how we are supposed to act in a situation, how it ENDS…in His glory when we just trust and follow!

  2. There is so much wisdom here it is no wonder the first instruction is to keep this truth in your heart. And what benefits come from following God’s wisdom and leaning not on our own understanding. Choosing between the two is really where the rubber meets the road as far where our lives end up. And this wisdom will effect every aspect of life…physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It will lead to peace with God, peace with ourselves and peace with others. It will teach us where we stand, where we should go and how to treat people. It will protect us from the evil that will ultimately destroy our lives. Let us all embrace it fully!

  3. Being raised without Christ, morality, God, leaves people at a severe disadvantage. The physical, mental, social and relational benefits are immense. It seems like a non-sequitur, but as I read this I am thinking of the mother of our current foster baby who was basically abused and raised by the system. All the elements of wisdom that a family brings…she has none of them.

    A father’s words of wisdom to his son.
    Trusting God.
    Have humility.
    Don’t despise correction.
    Health and wealth are by products of generosity and obedience to God.
    Not striving with your neighbor.

    To us these things are common sense, but the world is evil.

    I heard a preacher say the other day, speaking about the Christians in politics.
    The problem with Christians is that the cannot fathom that someone would do to them what they would never, ever imagine doing to anyone. I think that is where trusting God comes into play.

    Do not envy the oppressor,
    And choose none of his ways;
    32 For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord,
    But His secret counsel is with the upright.
    33 The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,
    But He blesses the home of the just.
    34 Surely He scorns the scornful,
    But gives grace to the humble.
    35 The wise shall inherit glory,
    But shame shall be the legacy of fools.

  4. 5Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
    6in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.
    7Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and shun evil.
    8This will bring health to your body
    and nourishment to your bones.
