  1. While I read these chapters I think of how grateful I am for Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice that eliminates the need for us to do these burnt and blood offerings anymore.
However, there is always a part of me that thinks because we are so quick to take things for granted and to let things become too familiar, practices like these must have made remembrance so much more effective in the people’s lives. Lord help me too never be too familiar with the sacrifice Jesus made for me!

  2. Boy the seventh month of the Jewish calendar was to be a busy one. In the civil calendar, this would actually be the first month and the feast of trumpets would correspond to New years day. But in this context the seventh month would include three festivals: trumpets, atonement and tabernacles. There would be corresponding sacrifices for each by which the Jews would honor God as well as pay for sin. The majority of sacrifices here though would be in thanksgiving and recognition of God, especially at the end of harvest time. The Jews would also make free will offerings and offerings that cam from vows they had made. It would require alot of activity, alot of focus, and alot of material wealth. Jesus frees us from the nature of the sacrifices, but still calls us to different kinds of sacrifice.

  3. That’s neat, a feast of trumpets. I wonder if it was a musical celebration or just blasting of trumpets.

“On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls; you shall not do any work.”
I was struck by “afflict your souls”. “Afflict” means humbled, oppressed, depressed, bowed down. “Souls” is your inner being, substance, mind.
My interpretation, be grieved by your own sin, repent, humble yourself before God with regard to your sin.

  4. 39“ ‘In addition to what you vow and your freewill offerings, offer these to the Lordat your appointed festivals: your burnt offerings, grain offerings, drink offerings and fellowship offerings.’ ”
40Moses told the Israelites all that the Lordcommanded him.
