The Transfiguration
1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light........Continue Reading

  1. What an amazing sight to see for these three disciples! But this chapter focuses on God and Jesus’s desire for faith in what we DON”T see. Jesus tells them not to say what they saw there that day until a later point and seems frustrated with His disciples when they could not cast out the demon.
God wants us to be strong in our faith!

  2. I was reading in enduring word about the transfiguration. I had not caught before that Peter was corrected/rebuked by God the Father for thinking that Jesus, Moses and Elijah were on equal footing. I never made the connection (seems obvious now!) I just thought that they were relaying an amazing experience – seeing Jesus with Moses and Elijah and then hearing a voice commending Jesus to them.

“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. 7 But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” 8 When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.”

  3. How blessed these men were to see Jesus in all His glory. It makes me look forward to the day when we will see Him face to face. Although naive, I understand why Peter would want to make the moment last by making shelters. But the point of the mountaintop is not to stay there, but gain perspective and lessons to help negotiate through life below. Moses is with Jesus representing the law and Elijah represents the prophets, and Jesus fulfills both. One wonders if part of the reason Jesus expresses a little desperation with this generation is because the transfiguration reminded Him of what God’s glory was like….the experience with the other disciples certainly brings them back to earth. And a lesson about faith is valuable to us and them. What things are not happening in our lives because we don’t believe? Selah!

And what an awesome miracle these coins in the fishes mouth is! Jesus’ power is incredible but what is even more amazing are the varied ways the power is expressed: from feeding thousands, calming the seas, and putting coins in a fishes mouth and then orchestrate that Peter catches the right fish…or better whatever fish Peter catches will have the 2 coins there…incredible!

  4. 5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
6When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,”he said. “Don’t be afraid.”8When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
