Lent 2026 – Day 22 in the Book: “The Life of Jesus“
The Week Jesus Dies
Read Sections 5.47 through 5.48 (pages 173-175)
This book is an account of Jesus’ life and teachings told in chronological order from the four Gospels to create one continuous story.

Thirty silver coins, the cost for Jesus’ life. Judas hung himself in shame over what he had done. He could have run into the crowd, tried to appeal, tried to be heard and save Jesus but unfortunnately, he took an easier way out. So many people lined up to tell lies about Jesus, some twisting and misrepresenting His teachings to make Him look guilty. The same teachings they walked for miles to hear, they now used as fuel to crucify Him. The herd mentality at it’s finest! Doesn’t have to be right just has to have the loudest voice making people scared to disagree…we still see this today and it is a reminder how important it is to stand up for what we believe, for the truth of God!
To false testimony Jesus says nothing, understanding they are going to believe what they have already decided, independent of what He might say. But to a direct question about who He is, He answers boldly and even doubles down…not only am I the Son of God, but you will see me at His right hand and coming in the clouds. I can only imagine the conviction that will be in their hearts when they see this and bow down and confess that He is Lord. And poor Judas. He willingly did what he did, but reflects differently on it now. It is just like satan, to lead us into sin with all the fanfare of what it offers and then condemns us after we do it. And yet Peter and Judas did similar things and Peter works through it to be restored and Judas gives up. And the hypocrisy of the Jewish leaders is palpable. We can’t use this bribery money in the temple, but the people who gave the money can serve there?
Lent day 22
Lent 5:41 – 5:52
Judas has a change of heart so he goes to those that are supposed to intercede between him and God, and they tell him that’s your business. A lot of correlations between the priest of Jesus days and what I saw growing up in the Catholic Church. My sister attended a Catholic Church in Westerly for 30 years. Now with Alzheimer’s in assisted living for the last few months, still waiting to be visited by a priest from her parish, not what the church of Jesus Christ is supposed to look like. I apologize for judging, but I do admit it upsets me.
Lent day 22
Even the very # of coins that Jesus was betrayed for and the eventual usage was prophesied. Judas’ actions and the leaders and priests was foreseen by God. Makes me think so “man makes his plans, but the Lord determines his steps.” That could foster faith or fear, depending on one’s relationship with God. It is comforting to know that God is in control, and even in His sovereignty our actions have consequences, fortunately He has worked it all together for good for those that love him, those that love His Son.
