It is interesting that Jesus does not know the time when He will return, but it only matters that the Father knows. And He will be coming at a time that is unexpected with the world doing what it normally does. But we as believers are to be ready and not get caught up in worry or a frivolous, drunken lifestyle. And our state of readiness needs to be constant because we don’t know when Jesus will return. And we should be excited by the reality of seeing Jesus face to face. And to demonstrate the principle of readiness, Jesus tells the parable of the virgins waiting for the bridegroom. Their readiness is demonstrated by have extra oil so it is ok if the bridegroom is late. Jesus will come when it is right, and we need to remain faithful and empowered until He returns.
I often wondered if this was the rapture or if this was the second coming, as it says two men will be in a field. One will be taken. The other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill one will be taken, and the other left. As we see things in this world certainly pointing towards Jesus return, it is exciting, but I’m glad I don’t know the dates. Heaven is not my only goal. I just want to continue being who I am and doing God‘s work here on earth. I love the parable of the 10 bridesmaids. I’ve always considered the oil being the Holy Spirit as scripture says there’ll be many outside, saying and crying Lord Lord, but our Lord will say go away. I do not know you. They do not have the oil, the Holy Spirit. I would like to add this morning that our Wednesday night Bible study is an incredible study and if you’re missing it, you’re missing something very special and enlightening. We spoke last night of light and darkness comparing so many different scenarios. It left me thinking of revelation 22, where in heaven, there will be no more night for Jesus will be the light in heaven, brighter than the sun and brighter than all the stars combined. And we will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22-5.
Lent 2026 – Day 10
Psalm 86; Ezekiel 19; The Life of Jesus 5.16-5.17
Day 10 No one knows when the Son of Man is coming back only God our Heavenly Father knows. This reading is a reminder of how we need to be ready so we won’t be left behind. This reading always reminds me of a dream I had some years ago, I was standing in a large building with a bunch of people when there was a loud trumpet sound and the wall crumbled and Jesus was there coming towards us on a cloud and someone behind me was screaming he’s coming, and I remember thinking where’s my family are they going to miss this and then I heard a voice loud and clear, he said your not ready, I still remember that dream so clearly, I felt God was telling me just that I wasn’t ready. I needed to spend more time reading his word and drawing closer to our Savior. I needed to be in prayer more and serving wherever I could. We have to prepare ourselves for Christ’s return this life is so temporary we want to live for what comes after this life, so we can’t let the distractions of this world get us, and there are so many distractions in each day, just trying to draw us away from God. Don’t let our weaknesses draw us away but draw us closer by spending time with God and living under the control of the Holy Spirit!
Lent 2026 – Day 10
Day 10
It’s interesting that Jesus says “no one knows the day or the hour”, but also He says, when you look at the trees budding, you know summer is coming. There are many seemingly Contradictory statements. Paul also says, Jesus will come like a thief in the night, but he also says we are not asleep.
I take this all to mean that there will be some indications of the “season” of His return, but not the day or hour. I also wonder if the “one taken, one left” is the rapture and if we/those raptured won’t see a thing!
There are also verses that talk about running to the mountains and not going back. If we are raptured “in an instant”, we won’t be going anywhere.
Regardless, whether we will be here or not, we need to be ready.
I believe Jesus is talking about 70AD, the fall of Jerusalem, and the end, when He returns. That’s why descriptions and instructions are different.
Days 10,11
Jesus clearly says the key is live always ready. We should not procrastinate and we should not act as if there will always be more time to get right with God. We need to be constantly leaning into Him and able to recognize His voice, His word, and not be swayed by the things of this world.
