Lent 2025 – Day 25
Driving through Florida recent days see a lot more billboards with messages of Jesus and eternal life. Huge crosses churches have constructed you can see for miles. My grandchildren commented on everyone as we drove roads of Florida. One of the most excruciating ways evil man has devised to die and it’s everywhere we see. In Jesus days it was to strip a man of all his belongings he had in this world. For Jesus the ultimate time he turns the world system upside down. He’s heading back to his kingdom through the cross. And stepping on satans throat as we are invited with him!! Ironic that the sign placed over Jesus is written in all languages for all to understand the way. Still the heart of jesus as Jesus ask his father to forgive the soldiers, the chief priests and all those that yelled crucify him!! And I can’t forgive some….
Dispersing His clothes, hurling insults, and constant challenges for Him to save Himself. The torment continued even as He hung there to die. I am always struck by the criminals on either side and how they depict the two most common reactions people have to Jesus even to this day. The one who recognizes just who He is and what He is doing for Him, dying an innocent man to save others. The other who joins in the mocking and thinks He should prove Himself by saving Himself and refuses to recognize that what he is witnessing is actually saving the world!
Jesus accepts that humble criminal with love and mercy despite his sins because he believed that he was hanging next to his Savior! So sad that even today so many people are like the other criminal that don’t want to believe and accept Jesus because then they would have to stop their sinful ways that give them temporary gratification, or they want to blame God for the bad things that happen rather than look at themselves, or because they are just too prideful to humble themselves even in the face of their own death from sin.
Lent Day 25
While Barabbas in yesterday`s reading is an example of Jesus dying in our place, so is one of the thieves on the cross dying and going with Jesus after he died. This example is the thief not doing anything to earn his salvation. He only believed in the Christ. The other thief never believed and didn`t go to be with Jesus. It is as simple as that. They both knew that they were sinners. God bless you.
