Reading along with us in Joshua and 2 Timothy? Here’s today’s reading:
Joshua 13 (NIV)
Land Still to Be Taken
1 When Joshua had grown old, the Lord said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.
2“This is the land that remains: All the regions of the Philistines and Geshurites, 3from the Shihor River on the east of Egypt to the territory of Ekron on the north,……Continue Reading
Joshua 13
33But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he promised them.
Like the tribe of Levi God is our inheritance. As believers, He provides for us as He did for them and will continue to.
Joshua 13
”The children of Israel also killed with the sword Balaam the son of Beor, the soothsayer, among those who were killed by them.“
Joshua 13:22 NKJV
Maybe they should have taken care of Balaam before he instructed Balak on how to get the whole nation to sin.
”But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.“
Revelation 2:14 NKJV
Joshua 13
As is true in our lives, there are some areas that are easier to conquer than others, and yet we must persevere and be disciplined to overcome all the areas that God guides and equips us to overcome. Israel was ultimately unfaithful to overtake the whole land. May we be more successful in our pursuit of righteousness. I also couldn’t help but think how much more significant these land designations would be to those who were receiving them. Imagine if it was land areas we where familiar with, like the land area between Rte 2 and 95, but north of 138 and south of 102 including the towns of South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Exeter, Richmond, etc. These designations were just as real and important to the Israelites as they would be to us if we understood the land details.
Joshua 13
Joshua 13
The Levites were given no land as inheritance, but were given God Himself.
