John 9 (NIV)

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind
1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, ”said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him........Continue Reading

  1. Jesus again here gives us another amazing object lesson through His miracles. The Pharisees could not see it was Jesus because they were too caught up in what they were expecting Him to be, too caught up in the law to believe that the Son of God would come to them this way!
The Pharisees looked at this man’s blindness as a punishment for something he or his parents had done since he was born that way. The hypocrisy is that they still were not looking at their own sin and their need for Jesus that they were so quick to condemn.
When our eyes are open to the power and the love of God we become new and let go of what we thought life should look like and hopefully we start to look at things through the eyes of God.

  2. Another great chapter. Chock full of truth. Spiritual blindness!! I have been guilty of thinking someone is being punished for a sin. And I have been the victim of some people knowing the answers of suffering. Human judgement!! Who are we to judge. I just had an operation on my hip. And now have a much better appreciation of those who are on crutches or in a wheelchair. God continues to open my eyes in life. All to his glory!!! A man born blind and now can see?? Love this mans answer to the blind Pharisees. If this man was not from God he could do nothing. But I was blind and now I can see. Jesus now heals him spiritually. And he worships Jesus. What an awesome picture of the mercy of God. I have come into the world so that that the blind will see and those that see will become blind. Said it loud enough so these Pharisees heard him. They remain in their sin. Because they say we can see just fine. I have not come for the healthy but I have come for the sick. And the blind . Thank you Jesus that my family and I now can see!!!! Mercy!!!

  3. What a great chapter which details events that follow well Jesus’ teaching in the last chapter. Jesus declared Himself to be the light of the world there and now does a miracle to show what He means. He gives sight to us who otherwise would be blind. But even in the presence of such power, the Pharisees don’t know what to do with themselves. They investigate trying to find any reason to discredit the work of Jesus…..maybe he wasn’t really blind….let’s ask the parents….let’s threaten them with expulsion so they won’t give real answers….let’s say Jesus is a sinner and the blind man is a fool…..well the only fools are those who don’t see the hollow nature of their arguments and the true nature of the arguments of the uneducated blind man…..how could this man be anything else than from God. And once Jesus reveals who He is….the blind man believes and worship. Which makes Him the wisest and clearest seer in the crowd….

  4. I guess trying to deny, explain away, lie, discredit, and threaten away truth and reality is not a new concept.

The Pharisees are not “blind” they know what they are doing, therefore their sin remains.

  5. 30The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. 31We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. 32Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
