Jeremiah 49 (NIV)

A Message About Ammon
1 Concerning the Ammonites:
This is what the Lord says:
“Has Israel no sons?
Has Israel no heir?
Why then has Molek taken possession of Gad?
Why do his people live in its towns?
2 But the days are coming,”
declares the Lord,
“when I will sound the battle cry

  1. Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Kedar, Hazor, & Elam….anyone who thought they might escape the judgement due them for their idolatry and disobedience was quite mistaken. God’s judgement was coming for each of these and it was not pleasant.

  2. I was going to say that The book of Jeremiah sounds like a 50 year continuous rant , ii feel bad saying this, since Jeremiah was given a commission from God to do just that

  3. It just came to me that I should be as on fire to preach the word of God, I would have to believe that only with Gods help could Jeremiah or anyone for that matter continue on for decades without giving up

  4. God through Jeremiah declares judgement on the nations that surrounded Israel, Edom and Ammon distant relatives as well. The judgement declared is fairly similar: they who were once mighty will fall, the various cities they had had confidence in will be destroyed, and they suffer due to their pride and self reliance. What was also similar amongst these nations is they were observers of God’s work amongst the Jews. So if anyone was to get the point of God’s glory and presence with the Jews, it would have been them. But they followed false gods instead. Therefore they too will suffer under Nebuchadnezzar’s military might, but even he is a tool in the hand of God to accomplish His purposes. It should encourage us to look at the ways we are looking out for and to ourselves rather than God and make sure we are not ignoring the messages God sends us…through His word, His Spirit and His people.
