Jeremiah 48 (NIV)

A Message About Moab
1 Concerning Moab:
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Woe to Nebo, for it will be ruined.
Kiriathaim will be disgraced and captured;
the stronghold will be disgraced and shattered.
2 Moab will be praised no more;
in Heshbon people will plot her downfall:

  1. No wonder Jeremiah was the weeping prophet. All he had was depressing news. I’m depressed after reading it! 4 more chapters. Thank God

  2. I do feel your pain Mark, but appreciate the perseverance that all have had going through Jeremiah. But here Moab, a distant relative of the Jews (Moab was Lot’s son and Lot was Abraham’s nephew), is told of their judgement. They had been perpetual enemies of the Jews, and whenever Israel was down, Moab would gloat or take advantage. That is why their is a bit of an expectation that they would know God and should have followed Him and are judged because of their disobedience and pride. They were known as a warrior people, but that won’t matter when God’s hand is against them. It is because of their relationship with the Jews that they are promised restoration at the end of the chapter as well. It just doesn’t work to do things against God and His will. We will learn that the easy way, or the hard way…..

  3. Another harsh word of judgement this time for Moab. I agree with Mark that poor Jeremiah had a difficult job always delivering messages that no one wants to hear. and yet God always adds hope and the promise of restoration once people get the message and do what they should have been all along.

  4. Jeremiah 48
    “Moab will be destroyed as a nation because she defied the Lord.”
